Pycnonotus goiavier
Size: 19 – 20,5 cm long
Weight: 24 – 37g
Description: Pale brown feathers cover the back of this bird, with lighter brown/white feathers across the chest. Black markings cover the eye and beak. Bright yellow colouring can be found at the base of the tail, giving this bird its name.
Found: This species is found across south-east Asia, from Thailand and Laos, across islands such as Borneo, Indonesia, and the Philippines. It is found in open habitats such as farmland, grasslands, and wetlands.
Diet: Consists mainly of berries and small fruits – but has been know to sip nectar and go for small insects.
Comments: The population is suspected to be increasing rapidly as this species benefits from deforestation and the creation of artificial habitats.
