Halcyon smyrnensis

Size: 19-21cm

Weight: 66-81g

Found: This species of bird can be located in the South of Asia. Usually they will be found on open plains, and will often be seen perching on trees or wires.

Description: The White-throated Kingfisher has a bright blue back, wings and tail. Its head, shoulders, flanks and lower belly are chestnut, and the throat and breast are white. Its large bill and legs are a very bright red, and the underside of their wings have patches of white.

Diet: As well as the obvious fish, these birds also eat small reptiles, amphibians, crabs, small rodents and even other birds.

Comments: These Kingfishers have very few natural predators in the wild, due to their rapid flight and strong bill. When not hunting, they make their homes in tunnels on the sides of earth-banks.
