Found: This species can be found in Eastern Asia, and in Thailand they can be found in both primary and secondary forests.

Description: The Rufous Woodpecker has foliage of a reddish brown colour, subtly barred with lines of black. They also have slightly curved beaks, and the males have small red patches around their eyes.

Diet: The diet of these birds consists mainly of ants.

Comments: These birds will build their nests within the existing nests of acrobat ants.
