Ardea alba

Found: This species can be seen across Central Asia, North and South America, and Africa. They are commonly found in the lowlands of Thailand.

Description: The Great Egret has a long neck almost 1.5 times the size of its body, long black legs with black feet, white plumage and an orange beak.

Diet: fish, frogs, small mammals, and occasionally small reptiles and insects.

Comment: The Great Egret has thrived and spread through various continents, and can be found in many countries across the world. They breed in colonies in trees near large lakes with reed beds, and can spear fish with their long beaks from the water. During breeding season they obtain bright foliage, in order to attract a mate.
