(Pterorhinus pectoralis)

Size: 26·5-34·5 cm

Weight: 105-170 g

Found: This species is native to Southeast Asia and can be found also in Hawaii after it was introduced here. In Thailand, they will be found in wetter forests, usually near streams.

Description: These birds have a soft foliage in a cream colour covering their underside, with darker brown wings and back. A black ring loops across their breasts, taking the form of the ‘necklace’ they are named for. This species can be distinguished from the Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrush by its silvery streaked ear coverts, which are encircled by a back band.

Diet: The Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush feeds mainly on insects and some fruits.

Comment: These birds tend to be quite shy and reclusive, and therefore not as often sighted as some other species. When they can be heard, their song is a series of short and loud whistles.
