Bubulcus ibis
Wing span: 88–96 cm
Weight: 270–512g
Found: Living in Southern Europe, Africa and Asia, the Cattle Egret are a prolific species and can be seen all over Thailand.
Description: The Cattle Egret can be identified by hunched posture and short, thick neck, as well as its white foliage with tawny highlights on the head and chest, grey legs and orange beak.
Diet: Some fruits, frogs and a wide variety of insects.
Comment: The birds will often follow cattle and other grazing animals, feeding on the insects that these large mammals disturb as they pass. They nest in dense colonies of stick nests in trees or emergent wetlands, and tend to spend less time in wet areas than other species of heron.
